Course 1

Gospel-Centered Sports Ministry (GCSM)

Course Mission:

For the participants to leave with an understanding of and passion for the four chapter biblical construct of the gospel that forms the hub from which they will pursue the redemption of sports.

Course Vision:

At the end of the class students will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of the question “What is the gospel?”

  • Understand the impact our definition of the gospel has on our sports ministry

  • Identify/define the gospel according to the four chapter construct and begin to see what sports would look like in each of the four chapters

  • Identify the hub of their sports ministry and evaluate what gospel is being pursued in their sports ministry

  • Clarify what is and what isn’t gospel–centered sports ministry

  • Identify ways to move their sports ministry into a greater gospel–centricity and develop a plan to do so.

 

 

Course 2

Sports Outreach Ministry Leadership (SOML)

Purpose:

Equip students with the tools to start, transition or revitalize an existing Sports Outreach Ministry with CEDE Sports.

Objectives:

Students will be able to:
● Have a clear definition of Leadership – This is what a leader is…
● Delineate the difference between godly and cultural leadership in ministry
● Define a mission statement for a Sports Outreach Ministry Leader
● Develop a model for expressing godly leadership within a Sports Outreach context
● Write out a strategy for implementing that model of leadership within their local church
● List the key milestones to starting a sports outreach ministry
● List the key issues for transitioning a particular recreational ministry
● Develop a plan for starting or transitioning the sports ministry at their churches
● Analyze a church sports ministry and develop a plan to either start or transition the ministry


Course 3

Relational Outreach (RO)

Purpose:

For students to personally and effectively utilize relational outreach in their involvement in Sports Outreach and be confident to train others to do the same.

Objectives:

Students will be able to:
● Define successful outreach
● Show the need of our day for a relational outreach strategy
● Explain the biblical basis of the natural process model for outreach
● Outline the various phases of the natural process model
● Determine the process phase for particular relationships
● Take the strategic initiative to help a person progress in that process
● Determine a strategy for tailoring the natural process model to a particular sports outreach environment
● Evaluate their current Sports Outreach Ministry in the effectiveness of utilizing the natural process model
● Develop an overall Sports Outreach Ministry strategy for every phase of the scale that would facilitate people moving through the process

 

 

Course 4

Theology of Competition (TOC)

Purpose:

For students to effectively address the issues surrounding competition both on the sports field and in life.

Objectives:

Students will be able to:
● Understand the importance and dynamics of an integrated worldview specifically in regard to competition
● Identify the worldly worldview of competition and it expressions along with the biblical worldview of competition and its expressions
● Lay aside the worldly expressions of competition and give themselves in their sports environments to competing with a biblical worldview
● Take this integrated worldview of competition beyond the arena of sports and apply it to every area of life – transforming the world to the glory of God
● See the importance of these concepts and multiply them in their local churches


Course 5

Building a Sports Outreach Ministry Team (BSOMT)

Purpose:

For students to take significant steps toward building a SOLT and Coach Development Team that will launch them into a lifetime of building teams.

Objectives:

Students will be able to:
● Defend the biblical basis and practical benefit of team leadership of SOM
● Identify the key characteristics of a good team and analyze an existing team in light of those qualities
● List the differences between a SOM Leadership Team and a team for Developing Coaches
● Give definitions, biblical basis, and activities for the characteristics of high performance teams
● Give the biblical basis, key curriculum items and activities for developing coaches.
● Understand their leadership and personality style and give the basic differences with other personality and leadership styles

 

 

Course 6

Sports Outreach & the Local Church (SOLC)

Purpose:

For students to understand the ideal of the local church from the perspective of Jesus Christ and commit their lives to making the reality more like the ideal.

Objectives:

Students will be able to:
● Define the biblical mission and vision of the local church
● Defend the need for SO within that mission and vision
● Align other ministries of the local church with that mission and vision – partner where appropriate
● Outline the various leadership structures among US local churches
● Outline the various key sizes of local churches and that effect on SOM
● Enumerate the effectiveness of the US local church in accomplishing our mission and vision
● Recognize the common problems they will encounter in working with the local church and develop biblical strategies for handling those problems
● Develop a wide array of SO activities for the diverse population of the local church


Course 7

The History of Sports Outreach (HSO)

Purpose:

Student will grasp History of Sports Outreach so that they will:
● Learn to not repeat mistakes
● Learn to repeat successes
● Identify progress and rejoice in God
● Identify possible worldviews in the past and in their ministry

Objectives:
● Delineate the major components SO History from memory
● List the key lesson learned from that history
● List the potential resulting worldview components and key terms with varying definitions
● To easily be grateful for the privilege of being in this History
