The Ideal Coach Resource Page

I have yet to meet a Sports Minister, Sports Director or leader who does not want to have a greater impact on players and families. One of the key factors for effectiveness in ministry on the field is: our coaches. However, we know Sports Ministry can be consumed by making sure all the administration is done – recruiting coaches, ordering uniforms and equipment, registration, game schedules, bills etc. That often leaves little time to plan for developing coaches. Along with these pressures your coaches might want some help with drills and uniform problems. The leadership of the church wants a safe environment along with as many people involved as possible. But one of your greatest callings is to equip your coaches to do effective ministry. How do you currently train your coaches for ministry? Often the answer reveals the need for this discussion and tool.

Explaining The Ideal Coach Further

The Why

  • A well thought out strategy to continue developing your coaches is essential to building and growing an effective Sports Outreach Ministry in your local church.

  • If you agree that the Sports Ministry’s goal is both evangelism and discipleship, then in reality for that to happen there needs to be coaches with evangelism as their focus.

  • We’ve developed the “Ideal Coach” model to help you evaluate and train your coaches. What is the “Ideal Coach” for your ministry?

The What:

  • The “Ideal Coach” helps you set a “standard” and goal for your growth in three specific areas- Knowledge, Skill and Character.  What do you need to know, to be able to do and be as a follower of Christ to be the Ideal Coach in your ministry?

  • A coach needs to be challenged in three areas: Knowledge, Skill and Character. Knowledge can be taught, Skill must be practiced, and Character requires mentoring.

The How:

  • The Sports minister has the pieces of a puzzle they must wrestle with to complete this picture of coaches development. The Ideal Coach model can help you put them together. We are here to help you!

  • CEDE Partners can help by providing coaching/mentoring to assist you in laying out a “Structure, Curriculum and Environment” to develop your coaches.  We also have the resources to equip your ministry with the tools you need.
